The El Gigante Rockshelter

The El Gigante Rock ShelterThe El Gigante Rockshelter is located in the southern Honduran highlands.  Excavations conducted here in 2000 and 2001 revealed a long occupation history spanning the period from 12,000-2000 BP.  A rich paleobotanical sample was recovered from the site which will be analyzed during the 2010-2011 academic year to provide a profile of changing resource utilization and economic patterns over the 10,000 years that the rockshelter was occupied.
