Makenna is a concurrent Anthropology PhD student and Master's in Public Health student at Penn State. She studies irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and specifically how industrialized lifestyles contribute to disease through ultimate causal pathways. She applies an evolutionary medicine approach to her research, alongside mixed anthropological and public health methods.
