The anthropological genomics laboratory (PI: George Perry) is involved in international collaborative research projects with academic colleagues and institutions in Madagascar, Uganda, and Peru. The projects in Madagascar and Peru both involve genomics and bioinformatics training opportunities for students from those countries with visits to our lab at Penn State, and annual bioinformatics bootcamps and hackathons in Madagascar. Our lab is currently supervising the PhD research of two Malagasy students, Rindra Rakotoarivony and Heritiana Randrianatoandro, who are studying the history of the Malagasy people using population genomics and using ancient DNA to study the island’s extinct “subfossil” lemurs, respectively.
